Mouthguards generally cover the upper teeth and protect the soft tissues of your tongue, lips and cheek lining. They help cushion impact to the face, reducing the risk of broken, chipped or knocked out teeth and possible injuries to your lips, tongue, face or jaw.
A mouthguard will also help redistribute forces from a blow to the head. While a mouthguard won’t prevent a concussion, it can reduce the severity of the injury.
